TIG WELDING INTRO
WORKSHOP
WORKSHOP Outline
-
Get a solid foundation in TIG welding, starting from the very basics. You’ll learn how TIG welding works, the difference between welding techniques, and how to read and understand welds. This section is designed to help you build confidence with the torch in your hand, even if you’ve never welded before. By the end of this stage, you’ll know how to approach a weld and why TIG welding is one of the most precise and versatile methods in the industry.
-
Before any sparks fly, you need to know your tools. This section focuses on how to correctly set up your welding machine, understand its settings, and prepare your workspace. You’ll also cover essential safety practices—from protective gear to the right environment—so that you can weld with confidence while keeping yourself and others safe. A solid understanding of machine setup ensures that you’re ready for any welding project, big or small.
-
This is where Shaun’s 20+ years of professional experience really shine through. Learn the insider techniques that separate a good weld from a great weld, including torch control, filler rod handling, and how to achieve consistent, clean welds. Sean will also share troubleshooting methods to help you spot mistakes early and correct them before they become habits, giving you a massive head start in your welding journey.
-
Nothing beats learning by doing. In this practical section, you’ll apply everything you’ve learned under Shaun’s guidance. You’ll practice running beads, joining metals, and improving your technique on real projects in a supportive, small-group environment. This session is designed to help you leave with not just knowledge, but the muscle memory and confidence to continue welding on your own.
-
In the final part of the workshop, you’ll showcase the project you’ve been working on and see how far you’ve come in just a few hours. Sean will provide personalised feedback on your technique, celebrate your progress, and give you practical advice on how to keep improving. You’ll also receive a Certificate of Attendance to recognise your achievement. To finish, Sean will guide you through possible next steps—whether you want to keep welding as a hobby, take on more advanced workshops, or start building a pathway into welding as a trade.

Our Facility
About the Workshop
Although I’ve spent over 22 years working in high-end manufacturing and fabrication environments, my true passion has always been on the artistic side designing and creating sculptures. I also enjoy passing on this craft to others, sharing not only the creative side but also the precision and discipline I’ve gained from my years in manufacturing. That’s why I established this facility: not as an industrial manufacturing workshop, but as my own artist studio and teaching space.
Our space at 62 Grogan Road, Perth Airport isn’t a heavy industrial facility it’s an artist workshop and studio. While we have a fabrication area equipped with high-end tools and clean workspaces, the workshop as a whole is a shared creative environment. Alongside my practice in metal fabrication and sculptural works, the space is home to a mix of other artists and makers: sculptors, painters, muralists, lighting designers, and visual artists.
This gives the workshop a unique character. Each area reflects the different practices and personalities of the artists working here, creating an atmosphere that is dynamic, diverse, and always evolving. It’s not a sterile manufacturing shop it’s a working studio where ideas are tested, art is made, skills are passed on, and collaborations happen.
Visitors are always welcome, and I’m happy to introduce you to the other artists in the space. And as a bonus, the studio sits right on the edge of the Perth Airport runway, so while we work you can watch planes taking off and landing throughout the day a backdrop that adds to the energy of the place.
